{"id":11,"date":"2020-03-11T02:18:17","date_gmt":"2020-03-11T02:18:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/district2vfd.wpengine.com\/?page_id=11"},"modified":"2026-03-04T02:37:37","modified_gmt":"2026-03-04T02:37:37","slug":"recruitment","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.district2vfd.org\/?page_id=11","title":{"rendered":"Recruitment"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em><strong>JOIN NOW!<\/strong><\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>District 2 VFD is looking for volunteers! <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Support Your Local Fire Department!<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We are glad that you are interested in joining the Brazos County District 2 Volunteer Fire Department.&nbsp;&nbsp;We are a proud, professional and progressive&nbsp;fire department and we work hard for what we have.&nbsp; Whether you want to become a firefighter or volunteer in some other capacity, we need you!&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We have all the apparatus and equipment of a city fire department, \nbut along with it comes a sacrifice\u2026 fire calls at 3 AM, missed dinners,\n and a very hostile working environment. A fire scene is quite possibly \nthe most hostile working environment known to man. In terms of physical \nexertion, <em>fifteen minutes of actual firefighting is equivalent to 8 hours on a construction site<\/em>.\n You will be wearing almost 75 extra pounds of clothing and other gear \nwhich limits your mobility. You will get wet, dirty, hot, cold, tired, \nrisk possible exposure to dangerous chemicals, atmospheres, and body \nfluids. You may even experience people who will curse at you or threaten\n you and it is likely that, from time to time, you will see things that \nwill turn your stomach. All of this is not meant to scare you; it\u2019s \nmeant to give you a small taste of reality. On the other hand, if you \ndecide that this sounds exciting to you, join the department and you \nwill be part of an international brotherhood and sisterhood\u2026 a \nbrotherhood and sisterhood&nbsp;like no other. No matter where you go, once a\n firefighter, always a firefighter. People will look up to you. We treat\n each other like family. If you need something, let one of us know and \nwe\u2019ll do everything we can to help you. Yes, you get to work in the \nworst environment known to man, but you also become part of the best \nfamily there is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The District 2 Volunteer Fire \nDepartment offers a very highly respected fire training program that \nwill prepare you for a&nbsp;firefighting career in the volunteer or \ncareer&nbsp;fire service.&nbsp; Training is designed to meet the needs of \ncommunity members who are full-time workers, whether they have any \nFire\/EMS experience or not, and within a short time, you can be \nresponding for D2VFD serving NE Brazos County as an emergency responder!&nbsp; Upon\n successful completion of a nationally approved firefighter \ncertification program, members are encouraged to take additional \nspecialty classes applicable to our operations that interest them.&nbsp; Such\n classes include vehicle rescue, rope rescue, advanced hazardous \nmaterials operations and advanced firefighter operations.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We would like to thank you for taking  the time to consider joining our fire department and please do not  hesitate to contact us should you have any questions.&nbsp; We would be happy  to schedule a personal meeting to discuss what options are available to  you as a member of our team<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you are interested in joining our department contact Chief Tradd Mills at <a href=\"mailto:rwagner@district2vfd.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">chief@brazoscountyesd2.org<\/a>.\u00a0 Chief Mills will explain our application, background check, and probationary processes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>JOIN NOW!
